Water Conscious
Desert Farming

Why Hydroponics?

Hydroponics uses way less space to grow way more. It is estimated that a hydroponic farm can yield 3 to 10 times more per acre than traditional farming. Growing in a controlled environment
also allows us to grow year-round with a decreased time between harvest and consumption.

Believe it or not, hydroponic farming uses 90% less water than traditional soil-grown crop production. Conventional agriculture is the largest consumer of fresh water on the planet with runoff being the leading cause of global water pollution. We honor this precious resource and care deeply about how our water use impacts our local community. Hydroponics is the most water-efficient form of agriculture in the world. It truly is the future of farming!

We never use chemical herbicides or pesticides on our produce. Growing hydroponically eliminates the need for herbicides since we are not combating native weeds or other invasive growth that conventional farming battles with. When necessary we
utilize carefully considered pesticide measures that respect the plant and the end consumer.

Happy Road Farms never uses genetically modified seeds. We believe the quality of our food starts from seed through harvest.

Pesticide &  Herbicide Free

All of our lettuce and leafy greens are grown hydroponically year-round in a controlled environment greenhouse. Hydroponics is a form of horticulture using mineral nutrient solutions. The nutrients are delivered to the plants through an irrigated water system, eliminating the need for soil. This method is extremely water conscious as the system recirculates all of the water and none is wasted.  It was important to Ron that his farm be sensitive to the desert environment and be as water wise as possible.
